Our Story
Same Duck, New Waddle.
Warrenton natives Max and Jeanne-Marie Tufts have in many ways, come full circle. Having been raised in bucolic Fauquier County, and with both sides of the family still very much a part of the community, it was an easy decision to return home in 2016. And so, along with their four children, they made their way back and have been delighted to see their family thrive in a way that only these ties can perpetuate.
The decision to purchase The Town Duck in early 2020 was not difficult. For many years prior, both Max and Jeanne-Marie found the established store, a true pillar and mainstay on Main Street in historic Warrenton, woven into their lives. From their own wedding registry to Jeanne- Marie’s mother, Anne (a committed employee for over 15 years) being a familiar face in the shop, and of course Annette Johnson, who had been at the helm since the 1990s until her very recent (and much deserved!) retirement, they realized there was a lot more to this brick and mortar space at 100 Main Street.
The opportunity to become a part of the strong and loyal merchant community in Old Town Warrenton was too good to pass up. Both Jeanne-Marie and Max (who have had careers in health & wellness and Marine Corps aviation & finance respectively), were thrilled to engage and collaborate on this new project and really connect to the community in this way. They bring an energy and interest in seeing their hometown thrive.
The Town Duck remains committed to offering its selection of well-curated wines, fine foods and unique gift selections—whether you stop in for a quick hostess gift, a bottle of wine to complement your supper, or to explore the wide range of gifts from tabletop to baby, it is their most sincere hope to see familiar faces and families frequent the longstanding establishment with enthusiasm.
